ARIADNE ARENDT
Born in Crimea in 1987, after the fall of the USSR I moved to London with my parents as a child. There I studied art history, and subsequently completed an interdisciplinary cultural research Master's. As an artist I am self-taught, or rather, taught by various informal teachers in a horizontal web of travel and knowledge exchange, from Serbian craftsmen, Portuguese porcelain factory workers to Japanese nerikomi specialists. My interests include animal and plant life, folklore, children's art, craft traditions, posthumanism. I have been involved with working in the field of outsider and folk art, and find much inspiration there.
Ceramics has been a medium of focus in the past ten years.
In the past three years I have been running community initiatives: a small gallery (Everything is Art) an artist-run studio space (To i To), both in Montenegro. And now starting the Papardes residency in Latvia.
Sometime curator and performer (puppeteer, DJ). I regularly write about art for Art Focus Now.
